Vintage Brass Elephant Perpetual Desk Calendar M N Sugathadasa Kandy Sri Lanka

Unusual vintage brass elephant perpetual desk calendar, marked M. N. Sugathadasa & Co., Kandy, making this a lovely piece of Sri Lankan decorative craftsmanship.

The freestanding elephant has a wonderfully characterful traditional design, with engraved detailing around the face, ears, feet and body. Set into the side is a mechanical perpetual calendar with individually adjustable sections for the month, year and date.

Currently displayed as February 1987, although the calendar can be manually adjusted.

The brass has developed an attractive warm aged patina with natural marks and signs of use consistent with its vintage character.

A particularly eye-catching piece for a desk, study, display cabinet or collection, and ideal for collectors of elephants, vintage brassware, Sri Lankan souvenirs and unusual perpetual calendars.
